First Foods – First Hummus


This pea and garbanzo bean puree gives your baby an introduction to hummus.

Steam peas and blend together with remaining ingredients, adding water to desired constancy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sweet peas, fresh or frozen
  • 15-ounce can of garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed), or 1 lb of cooked chickpeas (dried, soaked, and cooked)
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 3 cups water

Preparation:

  1. Add water to a medium stockpot over high heat, and insert steaming basket. Once water is boiling, add peas and steam until soft (about 2 minutes).
  2. Place cooked peas, garbanzo beans, olive oil, and  a few spoons of cooking water into food processor or blender. Puree until smooth and creamy. Add more cooking water as needed for desired consistency.
